GBU Bologna kicked off in October with a series of studies called Get to Know God. We have focused on the character of God in these first meetings, through reading various different passages.

Our next topic will instead be on the Life of Jesus. With Christmas nearly upon us, we’ll again run through the coming of our Saviour and end the series with a Christmas party, where we’ll spend time with other students. It will mainly be aimed at non-believers. What we want to do is create a welcoming atmosphere, where we can remember Christmas by reading from Luke, chapter 2 where it tells of the birth of Jesus over tea and biscuits, and Christmas games, etc. We want to end the party by introducing the GBU and inviting students to get to know God.

Please pray we’d find a room to hold the party in (we sadly don’t have a venue available). Pray we’d let as many people as possible know about the event. Pray that students would get involved and that many of them would come to know Jesus.

At GBU Bologna we’re studying some passages from Luke this year, connected by the theme of love and forgiveness. We pray that in these meetings the students would reflect the immense love God has for us and encourage us to love others as we love ourselves, and in the same way forgive one another.

We thank the Lord that new students have come to join the GBU and despite the initial difficulties brought about by organising the meetings, we’ve now managed to find two different time slots enabling everyone to join in.

Pray the Lord would lead us next time we go into the Faculty, giving us wisdom in speech, and opening the hearts of the students who’ll hear about Him. Pray that the Lord would guide our conversations and help us be fearless in sharing the message of hope and salvation that we have in Jesus.

Praise

We give thanks for having managed to find a time that suits many of the students better and we’re therefore doing two small groups every week. Furthermore, we as group coordinators, for the moment there’s just us, are starting to visit the faculties on a weekly basis, in an attempt to fully live out the experience of sharing Jesus among the students!

Prayer

We’re therefore asking for prayer for this reason too, that those students who are now coming along regularly would also join these weekly outings and would bring more students to Christ and to the GBU. We’re also asking for prayer for all the students in the group, that they’d also feel able to share their burdens and prayer requests.

Praise

We thank God for what He’s doing in the group. All the young adults are free to express their own opinions and they interact calmly during the studies.

Prayer
  • We’re asking for prayer for the team of staff/coordinators/helpers, that they would be tight-knit and united, to influence the whole group to having the same attitude.
  • Pray we would all be able to talk about Christ and the the GBU more freely with our collegues.
  • In addition we’ll be having our Christmas party on 13 December and we hope it will be an occasion for reaching friends and colleagues.

In GBU Bologna we’re hugely grateful to the Lord.
Since some have finished their studies or their Erasmus exchange, group members are completely new compared with last year.

Due to Covid, the group hasn’t grown, and as a coordinator, I was slightly doubtful as to how many would have turned up this year. But the Lord is faithful, and various believers have made contact with the group!
We are now a very small but multi-ethnic group (with 5 different nationalities) and our meetings generally take place in English.

Praise
  • Glory to God that a GBU Bologna exists!! And there always is relatively large number of people in the group.
  • We managed to see one another, in spite of the limitations.
  • We managed to talk to various university students, a good few of whom showed they were willing to talk about faith.

Prayer

  • For a set place to meet. So far, we’ve often had to keep changing.
    Because of Covid, we’ve not been able to make use of the same areas from years gone by. Furthermore, it’s quite hard work finding somewhere quiet in the university zones.
    Thanks to the Lord, we found a bar/pub. Let’s pray our meetings can continue there.
  • We’ve invited various non-believer students along to our meetings. Let’s pray they would come!
  • Pray for the group members, that we really would form good relations with one another and serve the Lord together.

Here at GBU Bologna everything is well.

Sadly, the group is suffering from the fact that meetings are only online and from not being able to fellowship in person, but I think this is a problem we all face.  Let us hope God soon lets us go back to meeting up face to face.

In terms of the other things, the studies are going well. There are always five or six of us and we trust we can also be of help to some others who might be seeking the Lord during their time at university.

Now we are just finishing a study on the perilous faith of Daniel and his friends, which has been very engaging, while in April/May time we will begin studying Jesus’ parables.

Let us pray these meetings would reach as many people as possible, especially through the technological tools we have available

GBU Bologna is progressing well; we’re studying Romans to find an answer to the question, “Is God just?” and some wonderful ideas have emerged.

At the first three meetings there were always four of us, of whom one person was always alternating.

  • Let’s thank God for enabling us to do the studies, which after the first meeting have been taking place online, since it has been impossible to find a cafe or canteen open after 6 pm to host us.
  • Let’s pray that the Lord will help us introduce GBU Bologna to more students, also through presentations during the lectures, flyers and outreach events, and that if the Covid situation remains stable in Emilia Romagna, we will be able to find somewhere to meet in person as well.

Thank you for sustaining us in prayer.

We’d like to thank the Lord for this season in which we’ve been asking ourselves who Jesus is, through studying Matthew, where we’ve been able to identify His true identity and mission as well as who He is for us.

We thank Him for the new contacts who’ve come to the meetings and the new people we’ve been able to talk to about Christ.

Another reason to give thanks is for the international meal which allowed us to spend time together, get to know one another better and share something of our cultures.

Prayer Requests:

  • For new students;
  • For the new study on the letter to the Philippians;
  • For the end of year party;

Let’s keep sharing Jesus, passing knowledge of him from student to student.

In April, probably the 11-12 and 15, we will bring the GBU “Bible Exhibition” right into the centre of the university! We are praying for the venue to be confirmed as soon as possible and that the exhibition will arouse curiosity in the various students so that they become interested in the GBU (and in God of course!).

We are asking for prayer for our non-believing friends/neighbours, that there would be an interest in what we are doing and that they would be encouraged to know more about it, that we would not be afraid of what we are saying but would rather be always sharing our knowledge of Jesus from student to student.

We are asking for prayer for new coordinators, because both the current ones are finishing their university careers.

We thank the Lord that new people have been coming to the meetings in recent weeks, including those who have not been converted, and there are also others who are interested and have confirmed they will come back soon to do a study with us!!

We thank the Lord because, despite the various university commitments, the studies on Mark are going well and we especially thank Him for the fact that our local GBU staff are always encouraging us and spurring us on!
