We want to give thanks for how the Lord has led us as a group up until now.

Along this journey, we’ve been privileged to experience His power, grace and above all His faithfulness. Every step of the way accomplished has been a tangible sign of His presence among us, and we’re grateful for how he has sustained and encouraged us through challenges and opportunities.

We’re asking you to join us in prayer, so that the Lord would continue to work in our hearts, granting constancy, unity and discernment.

We’re praying it will be He who guides each of our ventures and every future outreach event, so that we can be tools in His hands, for His glory and the advancement of His Kingdom.

We started the meetings a while back and we’re seeing a lot of interest on behalf of those who were already coming in previous years.

Moreover, we were able to make an announcement during a meeting of the Calabrian churches to let everyone know about the GBU and we’ve had an excellent response!

Pray that these new people come every week and that the group becomes ever more tightly knitted together.

Praise
  • We thank God for how we’ve got going again with the meetings and for the appreciation we get from students involved in the student activities and the academic staff overall.
  • We’ve been getting invitations and have been able to promote the Christian message in various ways and from multiple standpoints. God is opening the doors as we continue to work.
Prayer
  • We do not currently have a local student leader and often, when people offer to take on that particular role, more problems arise in their minds than exist in reality.
Would you please pray that we help potential leaders overcome these kinds of obstacles that frequently occur in the various Italian groups.
  • Pray for the freshers and students who want to take part in our meetings, but who haven’t yet been able to be present.
  • For all those who’ve experienced the goodness and joy of Christian life, but now have different priorities and are living through times where they don’t have real serenity. Pray they’d be restored again and moulded by the great love of God that we’re proclaiming on the campus.

Praise
  • We’ve begun the prayer meetings and God is blessing us.
  • We’ve got a potentially permanent room, potentially with a year’s contract.
Prayer
  • We need more unity within the group
  • We need to find other young people who’d be suited to the potential role of coordinator for next year.
  • We need funds to organise more quality events (such as a jazz concert with a time of reflection on a topic of outreach, inviting a Christian lecturer to take on a particular topic etc.)

Praise
  • We’re grateful to God for having taken part for the first time in the GBU training.
  • Perseverance and group unity.
  • New people (believers and non-) have joined the meetings.
Prayer
  • We need a space that’s entirely ours. We’re presently holding meetings somewhere shared also by other associations just before the start of the meeting.
  • Wisdom from above in running the various weekly meetings such as the evangelistic study and the outreach and prayer meeting, without forgetting to take good care of our members, so that we can discover their potential and make best use of it for the work of the GBU.
  • Additional meetings aside from the main meeting to consolidate fraternal relationships and friendships.
Vincenzo Pilieci

My commitment to student ministry developed spontaneously during my first few days at university, sparked by a desire to speak of Jesus with friends and coursemates. The coming to faith of some of these people and the various events organised by the GBU gave me the opportunity to share the good news of God’s kingdom with many people.

My time living in Spain was also a very formative experience as I took part in many activities run by the Spanish GBU groups and their staff.

Reaching young people with the message of God’s grace is a priority. University is a place where individuals and groups from hundreds of Italian towns can be reached, not to mention students from other countries! In such a context it is so important to be able to plant a holy seed, which has an eternal value and which God is able to take back again once it has accomplished his purposes for his glory!

Praise:

  • Thank God for the GBU meetings in Cosenza. A believer has been added to the group who wasn’t able to come along last year. In addition, a young male student has been coming along sometimes, invited by two GBU members. That God would lead us in everything.

Prayer:

  • We’d like prayer for the group to grow spiritually and in number.
  • Let’s also pray for the whole university that many of those whose curiosity was aroused by the articles “against us” published last week, might come to the meetings and experience Christ’s love.

Today the GBU meeting began. We were pleased to see three new people. The new arrivals were evangelised a few days ago at the university and came along to the meeting in response to inviations. All together there were ten of us. It was great to see one another again after months and to share our testimonies.

God answers prayers – we were in need of somewhere to hold our meeting and the university accepted our request.

We are bringing each of these academic activities in prayer, feeling certain that our help comes from the Lord and that if we do not give up, we will reap a harvest in His time.

I really want to thank the Lord for how he’s carrying forward the work of the GBU in Cosenza!
A reason to praise God is definitely the fact that the group is spiritually growing, with students more eager and curious to get to know the Lord and his word. In particular, I’d like to give God glory for Francesco and Vincenzo, two students who are experiencing what it’s like to live life with Jesus. By now, they are regulars at the GBU meetings (but also in the Cosenza community), and I believe that the Lord has begun a work of salvation in their lives. We are all really happy and grateful to God for this!
We regularly have dinner together after the meetings, and this is especially beneficial for strengthening the sense of family in the group. Thanks be to God for that.
The evangelistic events continue, but unfortunately the number of days per month in which we’re allowed to use the university space for these events has been halved from 6 to 3. Please pray that we’d be given extra days.
At a regional convention ‘Calabro’ (in Cirò Marina, Crotone province, 25/04/2016), in collaboration with the group in Catanzaro we decided to publicise the work of the GBU to students who will be attending universities in Calabria in the next couple of years. Please pray that new students will be willing to commit to working in the university mission field.
Pray for this group, that it would continue to grow in number and knowledge. Pray for the coordinators, myself and Caterina, that we can dedicate more to the Lord and be an encouragement to this group!
