Praise
  • Training sessions during the winter period: we explored and examined topic areas that affect society and the university environment (such as homosexuality, Catholicism, the Bible and science) with the believers of the group, sharing what challenges us and seeking counsel for the “prickly conversations” around the Bible and books from Christian literature.
  • Three studies on the person of Jesus, especially for A, who has been actively joining in the meetings since the beginning of the year, while continuing to not believe in God.
  • Winter camp: especially for D. He has also been attending the meetings since the beginning of the year and is asking a lot of questions about God.
Prayer
  • A. and D.; B who has been coming to the meetings for years.
  • Outreach week in May: three intense days when we will be at the university to speak to students and try to understand what people believe in. We will ask them what they think about who Jesus was and we will try to engage them in conversation to invite them to the themed events we are putting on for three consecutive evenings, but more especially, to invite them to ask questions, to investigate better and get to know Jesus personally! We are asking for prayer for organising the events, for the venues where we can hold events, for people to get involved and for the evangelistic talks, that they would clearly proclaim the Gospel.

  • For the end of semester event (in mid December).

Praise
  • The first part of the year really was very encouraging! We’ve seen Christian group members grow and we’ve been able to directly present the Gospel to various friends of ours, both through events and the Bible studies.
  • We thank God for the new room we’ll be able to use in this second semester and for how He guided our choices as a result of it.
Prayer
  • TMD, “The Mark Drama”: God willing, GBU Florence will also carry out this wonderful project at the beginning of May!! We’re super enthusiatic and we’re asking for prayer that the event will go well, both for the actors and our friends who are coming to see the play!!
  • We’re asking for prayer that each of our small initiatives will bear fruit to God’s glory!
  • For the two girls who coordinate the group in Florence, and that God would give other people in the group the desire to serve Him as coordinators, knowing He’ll provide for our every need.

Praise
  • We thank God for how He’s guided our presence in the faculty, allowing us to be able to make use of a room right in the middle of the university campus, where we can conduct weekly meetings and evening events! This will allow us to have an immediately strong start and to try to involve some new students.
  • We thank God for the new coordinators, for their enthusiasm and desire to serve God with the GBU and make Jesus known at the university.
  • Praise God for having created a GBU Christian group that can be relied on to plan the new year, the studies and events, bringing about a common vision to everyone!
Prayer
  • That we manage to nurture the contacts we have, made up of young people who have already been attending the meetings for a while. Let’s pray that God will impact their hearts.
  • Let’s pray that some new non-believing students would be moved by a desire to know Jesus and start coming to the meetings.
  • Please pray that this year’s activities would go well and for our desire to put on The Mark Drama again in Florence after some while.
  • Pray that God would give us wisdom in how to interact with our peers in order to share the Gospel message.

Praise:

  • For the start of the second part of the GBU year, beginning with the meetings in March, we were able to meet in a hall just for us, having enough time to hold Bible studies and organise the year’s events.
  • Praise God that He is working in the University of Florence! We’ve seen two more non-Christian girls turn up to the Bible studies for the first time!
  • Thank the Lord for support on behalf of the local churches, both in organising events and for praying in favour of God’s work at the university.

Prayer:

  • For the upcoming GBU events, that they’ll be an opportunity to invite friends along and proclaim the Gospel.
  • For non-believers that attended the previous small groups, that they’d keep coming to the bible studies, but more importantly that the Lord would speak to their hearts.
  • For each of the Christian members in the group, that they’d be strengthened and encouraged by the work of the Holy Spirit, that they’d receive wisdom and understanding for sharing Jesus student to student, wanting to obey the Lord more and more.

Praise:

  • We thank God for having not neglected to support us last year and for how He attended to us, providing care from the staff and churches we belong to. Not just spiritual aid, but practical aid too!
  • We are thankful for the new freshers who became involved in the group straightaway and love to share the person of Jesus in the university.

Prayer:

  • That God will make it possible for us to organise a mission week this year. That He will provide the venues and funds for us to achieve this.
  • For the inductive studies in the faculties, that they will incentivise people to invite along non-believing friends.
  • For us, the co-ordinators, for our spiritual growth and as a witness in the group.

Praise:

  • The Wintercamp organised at the end of February with the group in Bologna was a great blessing. God gave us the opportunity to study his Word and have a time of sharing and encouragement.
  • The groups at the weekly bible study continue to grow.
  • Lots of new contacts and people who are enthusiastic to work with the GBU to share the gospel with students.

Prayer:

  • That the relationship with non-Christian students can be strengthened and they’d have the desire to know Jesus.
  • For the organisation and running of the monthly meals, which are always an opportunity for students that are part of the group to bring along friends.
  • For the continual training of coordinators and leaders.

Florence counts more than 50000 university students and those who follow Jesus are few. But, the latter ones has a message of hope to proclaim and are called to share it with all around them.

When Andrea was a student he was part of GBU in Florence and then he did one year as a GBU relay worker. He personally experienced the privilege and the challenge of sharing the gospel of Jesus with his colleagues at Florence uni.

Andrea is married to Geanne and after 2 years of Bible training in England (as an apprentice at St. Ebbe’s church in Oxford and as a student at Cornhill in London) he is now GBU Staff worker and The Mark Drama director.

His desire and prayer is that God may use him to strengthen and train Christian students in the gospel of Jesus and in the ability to share it with their colleagues so that many other students may repent and believe in Jesus.
