Praise

We really can thank God for how the group has got up and running again so fantastically. Before starting up the meetings again this year, there weren’t many students who seemed interested and we were a bit discouraged, given that last year we were a decent-sized group of 7-10 people. But instead, we were surprised by how God sent us people.

There are new students who come along (among whom there’s a Catholic boy) and it’s a wonderful opportunity for us to open up the group and get known by more people. In fact, friends of this boy are probably going to come along, as well as a Catholic girl. In total there are ten or so of us this year, despite there being five or six of us at the meetings. This year we meet in person on Saturday morning, but we allow those who can’t be there the option of joining via Zoom, the hybrid way!

Prayer

We’d like to give thanks and at the same time pray for the Catholic friend who was an atheist up until a year ago and is now reading the Bible with us. Let’s pray he’d bring his friends along, so that we’d be bringing God’s Word to more people.

Up until now, we’ve only had two meetings, so pray for us too, the group coordinators (Gloria and Jessica) that we’d be witnesses for the others.

Moreover, Gloria is going off to do Erasmus in February, so let’s pray we find someone else to help Jessica.

In GBU Verona we only started up the meetings a couple of weeks ago, but we were super charged to get going!

At the beginning of September, many students left who were part of the group last year and we were left with virtually just four of us. But we didn’t want to give up hope and tried not to lose heart, believing that God had a purpose for us in this city!

God is indeed a faithful God, and we want to thank Him for the fact that the group is growing (there are currently around ten of us)! We can’t wait to see what will happen this year!

Please support us by praying for the students here in Verona that they’d find opportunities for people to approach the GBU and get passionate about Jesus!

Those of us in GBU Verona are thanking God that we have managed to meet in person for the first time!

In fact, since we started in October, every meeting has been online.  Sure, the meeting was on the last day of the “yellow zone” (tier 1) before we went into the “orange zone” (tier 2), but nonetheless it was a breath of fresh air that felt like normality!

Praise

We started meeting up again at the beginning of March after weeks of not meeting due to the exams, and now we are more ready than ever to get going again! Since October, the group has grown and there are now 15 of us, which we could not be more grateful for!

Prayer

That God would give us strategies for reaching non-believers among the young people, as they are currently in short supply in our group!

By the grace of God, GBU Verona has just started up again, despite it having been a truly unpredictable and unstable year from many perspectives!

God provided a new coordinator this year. We would like to thank God above all for His grace and faithfulness and then we’d like to thank all those who prayed for this ministry!

The group is currently made up of little more than around ten people, but not everyone participates actively.

Let’s keep praying:

  • that the group will have even more unity, be stronger and grow;
  • that new non-believers will join and thus get to know Jesus, the only certainty in this time where certainty is lacking.

When the group in Verona started up three years ago already, it was somewhat in its infancy, small and wanting to do a lot but was capable of little.

The two girl coordinators, who were virtually the only ones in the group at the time, had lots of energy and a captivating enthusiasm which certainly came from God and which was one of the reasons why today’s writer wanted to take up their role after they left (Iris has just graduated in Law and Valentina in Economics). I would therefore like to thank God for giving these girls this strength and determination and for the work they did in Verona.

Now, three years on, we still feel like a small group, because even though there were 11 of us at the last meeting, there are over 22 thousand students at the university who for the main part do not know Jesus. Therefore, in order to do our best to fulfil the GBU motto, we have decided to apply through university to become an official group on campus and be able to run events in the different faculties. In view of the requirements stipulated by the university for this application, I would say it will take a miracle, nonetheless we have something else in common with the group from three years ago, we believe that God works miracles.

Thus, we thank God for all the students who have started coming to our group and for those who have finished studying, for the study room we managed to find to meet in and for the friendships that have developed in the group. And we are praying for the application progress which will take place in May, for the young adults at the university who we have talked to about Jesus and that God gives us a sense of urgency and importance to need to share with everyone what Jesus has given us.

GBU Verona has started praying, and we are keen for you to pray with us.

Praise

We want to thank the Lord that the group in Verona is growing. One Erasmus girl chose the university in Verona because the GBU group was there and this gave us a lot of encouragement. Since the start of the academic year, we’ve already managed to organise a breakfast, a pizza night and our event, “An hour in England” (our monthly event in English). Therefore, we cannot help praising God.

Prayer

We want to pray that the people who come to the “an hour in England” event would also join in the Bible studies and we want to pray about a desire we have as a group: to organise the Mark Drama. We want to ask the Lord to help us put it on in Verona!

I never would have imagined that I would still be here a year on, sitting at the computer, thinking of how to tell the readers all the wonderful things God is doing and has done in the GBU group in Verona. And yet, our Lord is faithful in the small things as well as the big things, and he allows me the privilege of telling you what He has done among us.

Our group started out this year keen as never before, wanting the group to be known in the university, so that all students have the chance of joining in or asking questions about what life would mean without God. This is our desire to make the group known and spread the Word.

Do not think that the group has multiplied in size from 2 (that is how we started out last year as Emma and I) to 20 people – we are still a small group, but we have a lot of potential!

As a first meeting we went pinning up flyers around the university. However, some of them were torn down or ruined by having unpleasant things written on them, and this is why we are even more fired up, because if it annoys people when we talk about God, it means there is a great need for God. And these actions certainly cannot discourage us.

Praise:

  • For the people involved in this activity.
  • Because this year we will have a room available for us up until December. Pray God gives us wisdom to make the best use of this opportunity.

Prayer:

  • For the group, that what has begun will not be something fleeting but will be a seed sown for the long run.
  • That all believing students will get involved, but particularly that each Wednesday meeting we do will be so blessed that we will be encouraged to do the meeting the following week.

The GBU group in Verona was formed not long ago but, as the Lord says, “where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them” (Matthew 18:20), so even if there aren’t many of us, we have seen God working in the group, giving us a unique opportunity to meet together to study his word! We are working to share the blessings that God has given us with other students, in the hope that we can help and support those that need it.

Praise:

  • the opportunity he gives us to study his word with other brothers and sisters.
  • the sense of community and family that exists in the group.

Prayer:

  • That the Lord will enable us to grow as a group, bringing more students along each time we meet together, students who don’t yet know God.
  • For all of us that are part of this group.
  • That God would give us wisdom in organising activities, so that we can speak of him more often in the university context.
