We are GBU Bari, we like to call ourselves GBU@BARI 3.2.
Why have we chosen that number? We are the third GBU group to be set up in this city… and this is the second year this group has been around.
Last year there were 2-3 of us, but this year there seem to be a lot more of us, praise God!

Praise:

  • We praise God for the number of additional students this year, we have grown from 3 to 7 now… and I hope still more will join.

Prayer:

  • That each of these members will feel in their hearts how important it is to serve the Lord as a student.
  • That we will get going with our meetings as needs to be done, and especially that we will find a day that suits everyone.
  • That we manage to distribute the New Testaments with the Gideons (an organisation that distributes New Testaments in schools, universities and hospitals). The date for this is due to be set in November.

Praise:

  • We thank God for having not neglected to support us last year and for how He attended to us, providing care from the staff and churches we belong to. Not just spiritual aid, but practical aid too!
  • We are thankful for the new freshers who became involved in the group straightaway and love to share the person of Jesus in the university.

Prayer:

  • That God will make it possible for us to organise a mission week this year. That He will provide the venues and funds for us to achieve this.
  • For the inductive studies in the faculties, that they will incentivise people to invite along non-believing friends.
  • For us, the co-ordinators, for our spiritual growth and as a witness in the group.

Praise:

  • We thank the Lord for the beginning of this new year!! We have started reading the Gospel of Matthew.
  • We are really grateful to God for the new Christian students who came to the first meeting and are keen to return. This is a great encouragement to us! We actually thought there would just be a few of us to start with, but instead there were already a good number of us at the first meeting.
  • We thank the Lord for Gillian who has joined the staff at GBU Rome this year, and for Fjori who is undergoing staff training.
  • We also give thanks for two non-believing girls who have been coming since the first meeting.

Prayer:

  • Our prayer this year is that all group members can feel involved in the various activities! That the Lord would give our co-ordinators wisdom in making everyone feel part of the group!
  • That the Word of the Lord would be alive and effective in our lives. That the Lord would speak into our hearts, both to us believers and to our non-believing friends, each according to their needs.

GBU Catanzaro has not yet started up this year, but we will do shortly.
Please can you pray for this new year, that the work of the GBU will be ever more present in the university and will have new ventures.
Last year we did not see many non-believers coming to the GBU and our prayer this year is that many more people will come to know Christ, our desire is to work to that end.

Praise:

  • We thank God for the first event (treasure hunt) where we also had new non-believers who came back for the Bible study.
  • We are planning a lot of activities and are very keen.
  • There are two of us women co-ordinators this year. We thank God for the collaboration.

Prayer:

  • We are trying to become an association which will be recognised within the university. Pray there will not be any glitches.
  • For the non-believer contacts we meet up with regularly and for those who we scarcely see that we would establish stable contact with them.
  • For us as believers in the group that we will not lose the enthusiasm we had in the first year and that we will grow spiritually.

As always happens, our group this year is somewhat different from the one last year – a lot of the students who were with us are not in Bologna any more, but at the same time others have taken their place! There has also been a change in the co-ordinators, because from there being just one (me, Gianluca) there are now four of us (Giorgio, Giulio and Sefora), which allows us to divide up the tasks more easily and also the commitments. We also have a new staff member who is available for us all the time, Carol. All this is certainly a gift from God!

We have a non-believing girl with us, who joined at the end of last semester as a result of the surveys conducted among the university students which we carry out at various times each year. God is drawing her to His Word, and we pray He will reveal Himself to her personally and that she will put her faith in Jesus!

We are also holding two evangelistic events, one on 7 and another on 10 November, in a bar on the university campus- the talks will be conducted by one staff member and one student, and they too need prayer, but in the meantime we are pleased that we found these resources from within our local group without having to ask for help from outside.

However, we who are flagging, are in all things entrusting the life of our GBU group to Him who is stronger than we are (Luke 3: 16), and we are sure that everything will go even better than we expected, because God is good and he gave us the most precious gift he could in his son, Jesus Christ.

We thank God for the start of this academic year and for being able to see His hand in all things.
We already have five study groups up and running (with the aim of evangelising) in four different centres of the universities in Naples.
Pray that lots of young people, Christian and non- would participate.

We are preparing a Mission Week from 7 to 11 November.

We thank God for His faithfulness and for how things are moving more and more. As we are growing, we would like to form another group and we are praying that this news will be received positively and with certainty.

A while back we organised an Open Mic. The evening was very entertaining and enjoyable and a lot of people came along, both “attenders” and non-. One girl, who came along to the evening, then turned up at a Bible discussion and has continued to come along. She lives with one of our female co-ordinators, Andrea Carolina. She shared great news with us, because that very evening when she arrived back at home, she was able to talk about Jesus to her again. She has also agreed to do a Seekers’ Bible Study and we are overjoyed about this!!! Wonderful!

Finally, roughly a third of the people coming along are non-Christians. As I already mentioned previously, we are very happy about this, but the problem is there are not many Christians willing to help us disciple them. As there are not many of us doing this, is it not easy to run everything and we need more support.

Praise:

  • For all the young people who are still coming along.
  • God’s faithfulness and goodness.
  • The possibility of involving new people and introducing them to Jesus.

Prayer

  • We need more student believers who are willing to help out with the group and support the “growth” of the non-Christians. Pray they will understand that helping in the GBU and discipleship of the new ones does not have to be a burden but something enjoyable and pleasurable.
  • That forming a new group would be received positively and will give space to new people coming along to get to know Jesus.
  • Again in regard to forming a new group – we must make rather important decisions. Pray God would give us wisdom to make the right choices.

Today the GBU meeting began. We were pleased to see three new people. The new arrivals were evangelised a few days ago at the university and came along to the meeting in response to inviations. All together there were ten of us. It was great to see one another again after months and to share our testimonies.

God answers prayers – we were in need of somewhere to hold our meeting and the university accepted our request.

We are bringing each of these academic activities in prayer, feeling certain that our help comes from the Lord and that if we do not give up, we will reap a harvest in His time.

I never would have imagined that I would still be here a year on, sitting at the computer, thinking of how to tell the readers all the wonderful things God is doing and has done in the GBU group in Verona. And yet, our Lord is faithful in the small things as well as the big things, and he allows me the privilege of telling you what He has done among us.

Our group started out this year keen as never before, wanting the group to be known in the university, so that all students have the chance of joining in or asking questions about what life would mean without God. This is our desire to make the group known and spread the Word.

Do not think that the group has multiplied in size from 2 (that is how we started out last year as Emma and I) to 20 people – we are still a small group, but we have a lot of potential!

As a first meeting we went pinning up flyers around the university. However, some of them were torn down or ruined by having unpleasant things written on them, and this is why we are even more fired up, because if it annoys people when we talk about God, it means there is a great need for God. And these actions certainly cannot discourage us.

Praise:

  • For the people involved in this activity.
  • Because this year we will have a room available for us up until December. Pray God gives us wisdom to make the best use of this opportunity.

Prayer:

  • For the group, that what has begun will not be something fleeting but will be a seed sown for the long run.
  • That all believing students will get involved, but particularly that each Wednesday meeting we do will be so blessed that we will be encouraged to do the meeting the following week.
