Praise

We thank God for the start of this new academic year and for the new people who have come along at least once. This year two new student girls have been coming to our meetings regularly and are wanting to find out more about Jesus, and it is very encouraging for us to see their interest and listen to their questions and doubts.

This semester we’re doing a series of studies on “Seeking a Messiah”. In the first three meetings we were focused on passages from Isaiah, and now we’re looking at the New Testament. Each time the Bible studies are very interesting and the conversations lead us to reflect on who this wonderful Messiah is, on how much He suffered and the Lord’s plan for our salvation.

Prayer

We’re asking for prayer for the students who have not come many times and for those who came along last year, that God would meet with them and put a desire in their hearts to get to know Him.

In December we’ll be holding a Christmas party and we’d like prayer that it would be a chance to praise the Lord and talk about Him to our friends.

We’d like you to pray for us too (Ermioni and Shanizee), that God would sustain us and help us to continue with our responsibilities as coordinators and staff members, and that He’d lead every Bible study and special event.

Praise
  • We thank God for the unity of regular group members which has meant our activities have started up with excellent collaboration and organisation.
  • We give thanks because, compared with last year there are more believer members preparing the inductive Bible studies, which is not only a great help, but also really encouraging.
  • We also give thanks for the non-believers who have come along, not just to the initial evening event, but also to some inductive Bible study evenings, where they’ve activity participated through questioning.
Prayer
  • On this matter, we’re asking that they wouldn’t just continue coming along, but that they’d really come to know Jesus.
  • Let’s pray for the event planned to take place on 22 November, and the four inductive Bible studies which we’ll hold before finishing the year with a Christmas party we’ve planned for 13 December.

Praise
  • We thank God for guiding and leading us through all the activities we’ve had over the last four months.
The Winter camp, organized in conjunction with GBU Urbino, was a beautiful time of refreshing, even as we looked at the Gospel as the power of God for salvation, for transformation, and for unification to those that believe.
  • We thank God for the unity and camaraderie we’ve seen in the group, having all hands on deck in every event we had. Our second iteration of the art event was also quite a success.
  • For the non-believers who have maintained a line of curiosity and consistency to learn more about who Jesus is. We are grateful for the friendships within the group, and the openness to accommodate new people.
Prayer
  • That we, individually, may continue to grow in the knowledge and love of God, being rooted and grounded in Him.
  • We pray for the 3 days of events we’ll be having in mid-April. We pray for boldness as we reach out to more students.

Praise
  • We thank God for having seen the power of his Word, being able to speak through it both to believers and non-believers.
  • We thank God for the opportunity we’ve had to share the Gospel through the meetups and events that we hosted in October. We thank God for the wisdom and enthusiasm that everyone showed.
  • We thank God for the friendships and the unity wrought within the group. Truly God has been in the midst of all our conversations, as we’ve seen a positive response to the Bible study series we’ve done so far.
Prayer
  • We ask that we may continue to be receptive to His voice and His will, to understand what and how He would like to reveal Himself unto us. Wisdom in choosing the scriptures to study within the limited amount of time we have; that it may be in line with what He wants to communicate unto us.
  • For the organization of our winter camp in March, that we'll be guided by God in all the details and that many people from both our group and Urbino's will come along and be blessed by hearing about Jesus
  • A further strengthening of the networks, unity and friendships within the group
  • A wider reach toward the students at our university

This year GBU Siena has seen God’s goodness. The group has experienced an unexpected growth, which has allowed us to have a great re-inauguration of meeting in person after a long period of online activities. We used October to consolidate our new group of Christians, to then begin an outreach event at the start of November. We’re now continuing our series of Bible studies on the “I am” of Jesus.

Praise
  • We thank the Lord for the new Christian students He has sent to Siena, and for the unity we’re building among us. This is an answer to one of the prayer points we shared in the spring.
  • We thank God that our “AperInternational” event (in the photo) was successful and well attended. It was also encouraging to see non-Christian students come along, thanks to the posters put up in the University. We’re grateful to God for the opportunity to share the Gospel with them.
  • We also give thanks for the attendance at our Bible studies, where we’ve seen many students come back after the event, as well as new ones.
Prayer
  • for the new students, that they’d come to know Jesus personally, that we’d see their lives transformed by Him;
  • that the GBU would be better known at the University in order that more students are reached with the Gospel.
  • having mostly international students, we’re asking for prayer for wisdom in how to manage a bilingual group so that everyone can feel included.
  • for the Christian students, that we’d keep growing in unity and in our knowledge of Christ. That this would spur us on to be more passionate about sharing the Gospel with other students. Also pray for wisdom in planning the next term.

We have started up GBU meetings again after the winter exam session, and we are doing Bible studies on the importance of the cross. We have seen blessings and indeed the group has come together. New students have discovered the GBU.

Praise
  • We are there grateful to the Lord that He has given us new strength and new students to be able to talk to about Jesus,
  • the group has come together and new friendships have emerged.
Prayer
  • the new students who have just got to know the GBU,
  • for the coming year, given that many students are expected to graduate, that the witness could thus continue,
  • for the staff and coordinators.

Shanizee is Sicilian. She has always had the Mission at heart and that is why she has been in England for almost 3 years with the vision to equip herself for Christian service and then return to Italy as a missionary. During this time she collaborated for a period with Youth for Christ, studied theology at Moorlands College for a year and is currently the coordinator of the youth ministry in a Baptist church. In the meantime she is also committed to trying to make the British understand that putting pineapple on pizza is wrong, but it seems an impossible mission!

As a university student she has been involved in the GBU, first in Palermo as coordinator and then in Milan where, attending the master’s degree in Pedagogical Sciences, she led and coordinated the rebirth of the local group.

Being part of the GBU was one of the most formative experiences of her life that increased her passion to share Jesus with those around her.

Now her desire is to return to be part of this movement as Staff in Training in Siena, where she will also be involved with the local church in the youth ministry.

The plans are to return to Italy to work with GBU from September 1, 2021.

The GBU group in Siena is a bit under-resourced at the moment, there are in fact lots of non-believing young adults coming to our meetings but there are not many of us to keep the activities going, even though staff are actively collaborating.

We are therefore asking for prayer both for the young adults who are listening to the Gospel truth (we are studying the Gospel of John) and also the Christian students who continue to witness and involve themselves in the work of God at the University.

An inter-cultural dinner is planned for next week, we are praying for it to go well and for active participation.

At GBU Siena, we kicked off with an ‘aperitivo’ event and also explained what the GBU is. Then we started up our GBU cafè where we’ve been studying John’s Gospel. Leading up to Christmas we’ll have 5 GBU cafè sessions, all on John’s Gospel. On 31 October we held an evening event with a pumpkin pie and Giovanni talked on the topic of Light in this world (Halloween seen through the context of the Bible etc.). On 14 November we’ll be holding an evening event at the university’s astronomical observatory as we did last year. An academic from the observatory will explain the celestial bodies to us and we’ll also be able to use a telescope. We’ll finish up with a Christmas meal.

Pray
  • This time we’ve got more non-believer students so we thank God for having brought them along to GBU Siena.
  • Pray that God would continue to bless us with all the resources we need and that this time we’d be able to put on the exhibition of the Bible at the university.
  • Pray also for each of the students who come to the GBU and for our staff and our student leaders, Monica and Feba.

Praise
  • We thank God that our study with the GBU café is going ahead every week and is attended by various students who are searching and are happy to get to know Jesus.
Prayer
  • We’re asking for prayer for the week of events we have planned for the beginning of May, that the group would be united and actively involved in the organisation.
  • Moreover, we’ve been in contact with the Dean, over which areas are allowed to be made use of. Pray that new opportunities would open up.
