GBU Palermo is going fairly well!

We meet regularly every week to share some Bible passages. We began by studying the 7 “I am” of Jesus.

Moreover, as we’re not often able to meet in person, we’ve started facetiming each Saturday to pray together. This allows us to keep staying in touch.

We have some prayer requests:

  • For new believer students to join the group;
  • For the GBU students’ friendship relations with their colleagues and neighbours;
  • That God will bless the academic studies of the GBU members.

In Palermo we are resuming GBU activities and introducing a few new ones for the spring.
In our weekly meetings over the last few months we have focused on the first chapters of the book of Acts in order to understand the features of the early church. At the last meeting, our staff member, Domenico suggested dedicating a day to all praying together and so that we can take some trips outside the university since there is in any case already a group of young adults here in Palermo who organise themed meetings. Therefore, we will be meeting in a church tomorrow which is hosting us for the morning so that we can begin these “new meetings”. Our next meetings will continue to be dedicated to prayer combined with going out into the university grounds to ask questions, do surveys etc. This will enable us to get known as a GBU group, understand what the students think about Jesus and talk about him.
Thank you for your prayers. Let’s pray for GBU Italy.

First of all we thank you all for the prayers we know you directed to God in regard to GBU Palermo.
This new year began with some additional expectations.

Praise
  • For our desire to go deeper in His Word and in prayer.
  • Because a pastor of a church near to the university allowed us to be able to meet inside the building for our prayer meetings.
  • For our tireless student leaders, Elisabeth and Miriam (the new leader)
Prayer
  • To find a teaching room in the university, as that would be easier for inviting other students. Sadly, we haven’t yet found a teaching room where we can hold the studies, in fact we’ve been meeting in a cafe like we did last year.
  • For the outreach events we’d like to hold at the university.
  • For the outreach week we’d like to arrange in April together with a team of Irish students.
  • for Domenico, our staff member who will introduce the GBU in Messina on 3 December to try to get a GBU group started up there as well.

Praise
  • We thank God for the fact that even though we had problems finding a permanent place to hold our meetings, thanks to the effort put in by some students, the group has continued to be up and running.
  • We thank God that some girls in the group keep sharing good ideas on how to improve meetings and group activities.
  • We thank God that we’ll be doing The Mark Drama on 11 and 12 April in Palermo!
Prayer
  • That lots of students will come to see TMD, become interested in the Gospel and decide to know more about it.
  • That God will bless the series of meetings we do after TMD.
  • That the group will be more and more united and that other students full of passion for the Gospel would join.

GBU Palermo started up again in October. At the moment there’s just a little group of us who meet in a café near the university each week to get to know about Jesus’ life through Mark’s Gospel.

Praise
  • We thank God for this new start
  • For giving us the enthusiasm to start up again from scratch
  • For a non-believer girl who started coming to the studies.
Prayer
  • That we’ll find a new place to meet, because the café is noisy and it’s hard to concentrate well during the meetings
  • That new believers would attend regularly and take this activity seriously
  • That God would guide us in organising future events at the university.

Domenico is Sicilian. He was born in July 1992 in Erice, but has always lived in Marsala. He spent his university years in Siena, where he discovered the GBU and began serving with the local group, proclaiming the gospel to other students in Siena. Having now returned to live in Sicily, since January 2017 Domenico has been blessed to continue serving the Lord Jesus with the GBU in Sicilian universities. He is also involved in the ministry of his local church in Marsala.

Domenico is an important piece of the puzzle that is our Sicily Project, through which we would like to see a GBU group in every university in Sicily in the near future. We need a member of staff that can meet with churches, introduce and inform about the GBU and its vision but that can also regularly visit the local groups, encouraging and training them.
